EOS’ school garden program now includes one more!

Students and teachers and mothers and fathers pitched in to turn the soil, to prepare the plots, and to mark many rows at Juan Lindo School in the community of Mogola. In the company of eager students, EOS School WASH Program Facilitator, Oneida, patiently showed students how to cut rows in the soil, how to space and plant seeds (beans, cilantro, sweet chili, lettuce, carrots, beetroot, and radish!), how to water; and also – perhaps the hardest part – how to wait.

The bounty will come with time.

Through the care and cultivation of hearty vegetables, students will no doubt get a little dirt under their nails participating in the continual planting of seeds (radishes take only 22 days!), garden maintenance, and harvest, and will get a healthy meal in their stomachs ensuring at least one nutritious meal a day.

School gardens plants seeds of possibility and provide opportunity, expanding studies into outdoor classrooms and reaping the rewards.
